A two-hour course touching on a full array of Cruising, Sailing, and Seamanship topics.

Cruising is sailing, and so much more. This single-session class will delve into a range of Cruising and Seamanship topics, including upwind and downwind sail trim, heavy weather sailing, safety, anchoring, docking, navigation, and more.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This program is targeted to sailing enthusiasts of all levels, from novices looking to embark on their first coastal cruise to seasoned sailors aiming to refine their skills. Whether you're seeking to enhance your seamanship knowledge, boost confidence in handling various sailing scenarios, or simply aspire to enjoy safer and more fulfilling voyages, this course is tailored to meet your needs. From fundamentals providing a foundation to help newer sailors grow their skills to nuanced insights sure to get the attention of event the saltiest dogs, this course has something for everyone.

TOPICS COVERED

UPWIND SAIL TRIM
Sailing upwind, against the forces that drive us, is a marvel of modern design. After a brief look at the underlying forces we will explore the fundamentals of sail power and the sail controls we used to control sail shape. Next we will apply those principles to sail trim in full range of wind conditions.

DOWNWIND SAIL TRIM

Most of our cruising will be reaching. If not, perhaps it's time to pick a new destination! In this part we will turn our focus to reaching and running trim under jib and main, and as well as with an asymmetric cruising.

CRUISING AND SEAMANSHIP

Cruising encompasses a multitude of skills beyond sailing, from navigation to marine weather and beyond. We will explore the myriad of challenges that may arise during your next cruise. Topics will include safety protocols, mastering essential knots, anchoring techniques, heavy weather sailing, reefing procedures, and more.

BRING YOUR QUESTIONS

Obviously, we won’t be able to cover all there is to know about Cruising and Seamanship in a two-hour session. To make sure we address your interests, your questions are invited.
