Safety at Sea Seminar
This Course is for Crew members of offshore races, long-distance cruisers, and any sailor wanting to improve his/her sailing skills. This course is also the first step for crew members of long-distance and international offshore races, long-distance cruisers, or persons requiring the International Offshore certificate that complies with World Sailing guidelines for Personal Safety (World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations Appendix G compliant). If you are attending a hands-on-only course, this is the course you need to take. If you are unsure which online course you need to take, contact adult@ussailing.org. Typically the in-person course covers 8-10 units listed in Appendix G of the OSRs, from Giving Assistance, Personal Safety Gear, Care and Maintenance of Safety Gear, Fire Safety, Crew Overboard, Cold Exposure, Crew Health, Marine Weather, Heavy Weather, Storm Sails, and Reefing, Damage Control, Search and Rescue, Signals, Emergency Communications, and Life Rafts.

Our Instructor
Hi, my name is John Miller. I have sailed over 70,000 nm on the ocean, coastal, inland lakes and rivers in the US, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico. And, have had the pleasure to work with some of the most talented sailors on the West Coast to deliver the best attended and highest rated safety programs; Bruce Brown, Peter Isler, John Jourdane and Keith Kilpatrick to name a few.
NOTE: BRING YOUR PFD, Foul Weather Gear, Sea Boots, a towel, and a change of clothes!
Must be 13 years of age to participate. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Classroom training will be held rain or shine (wind or no wind). The Nevada Yacht Club Fleet Captain may cancel on-the-water activities if hazardous weather conditions exist. If both days of on-water activities are cancelled due to hazardous weather, the Nevada Yacht Club will attempt to schedule a single make-up day, but a make-up day is not guaranteed. Cancelations will incur a $10 fee per canceled registrant. Cancelations must be received 10 days prior to the event to be eligible for a refund.
