Nancy Cox Women In Sailing

We may be few in number, but we are powerful!

Ladies of Lake Mead who sail, this event is designed just for you. Join fellow women sailors for a day dedicated to celebrating our community! As we've discussed in recent meetings, we're diligently working to organize more events at the yacht club that center around our shared interests and create opportunities for connection.

While many of our past events have focused on women in racing, we will shift our focus this Sunday to community-building. Our aim is to gather your input on future events you'd like to see, both on and off the water.

The agenda will kick off with breakfast, followed by conversation and planning in the marina classroom. We’ll then have a hands-on demonstration of winch maintenance and some yoga stretches to prepare us for a sail and cruise (weather permitting).

To foster a strong community, solid participation is essential; without it, our efforts may fall short. I wholeheartedly encourage each of you to come out and engage with us as we strengthen our bonds and connections.

In honor of Nancy Cox, the Nevada Yacht Club holds an annual Women-in-Sailing event. Details for this year's event to follow.

Nancy was born in 1958 in Lansing Michigan. She lived in Las Vegas for 32 years and was an avid sailor participating in the many club events of the Lake Mead Sailing Club. She owned a Cal 27 named Soul Mate. Nancy continued to sail throughout her cancer treatments. A testament to her spirit, and I am guessing sense of humor and irony, in the announcement for her celebration of life, her LMSC friends wrote of Nancy: “Loved by everyone, trusted by most, cherished by all.” A memorial was placed on the top of Boulder Island to quote “create a place for her to watch over us each and every day as we sail.”
